Thinking Rich - Optimism

A hefty toolbox full of tools is essential to developing your money mind (aka: the mindset of the rich) and one of the most important tools you can acquire is a strong sense of optimism.

This doesn’t mean ignoring reality. It doesn’t mean just happily thinking everything will turn out fine no matter how much effort or planning you put into life. Optimism means expecting the best from yourself and the Universe and not accepting anything less.

Tom Butler-Bowdon says, “Optimism is power.” Claude Bristol referred to it as “the magic of believing.” How many truly successful people can you think of who didn’t have the belief that they could succeed, even when faced with the prospect of failure?

I can hear some of you thinking right now, “But I wasn’t born an optimistic person” or “Nothing in my life has given me reason to be optimistic.” Well, that’s why you’re here reading this blog, isn’t it? Because you didn’t get the silver spoon, right? Me neither. But optimism is the same as money, you don’t have to be born with it and you don’t already have to have it to get it. You can give yourself optimism no matter what your life up to this point has been.

Look at optimism like a mindset or a muscle; to make yours strong and get the most power from it, you have to develop it and exercise it. The more you use it, the more you’ll realize you can depend on it. But optimism is one thing you shouldn’t take baby steps with. Optimism is magic and if you’re going to believe, you might as well believe big. Expect the best, because if you don’t set your sights high enough, your motivation probably won’t be strong enough to see you through setbacks.

True, it’s hard to hold onto optimism when times are tough, but that’s precisely when you need to cling to it the most. Think of your climb to wealth as climbing a cliff and optimism as your rope. If you’re really out on that cliff and your foot slips, do you let go of the rope? Not a chance. You grab on even tighter. It’s your lifeline. You can’t let go without falling. You can’t let go and continue to climb.

Creating a wealthy mindset takes tools; optimism is just one of them.
