It’s Not Just Attraction, It’s the Law

The Law of Attraction works from the basis that we create our own realities by attracting the things we want into our lives by focusing on them. Great! So we should have all the money, love, toys and happiness that we can possibly squeeze into our focal points, right?

Although it can really be that easy, it’s rarely that easy.

While the Law of Attraction is a universal law, it is still one that must be learned. On your first walks out to the street, I doubt you were aware of the law against jaywalking. Maybe now you’re familiar with it, in that you know you’re not supposed to cross the street outside of the lines or against the light or something. But what if there aren’t any lines? Does the law apply when it’s 4 a.m. and there’s not a car for miles? Are you still breaking the law if no one sees you do it?

The Law of Attraction is even trickier than the goofy jaywalking example. With this law, there’s no friendly judge or police officer to explain the rules for you. Different people have different interpretations of it, but how much of a background in Universal Law do they really have? And, worse yet, you may be breaking the law and paying the debt for it without even realizing you’re on the wrong side of it.

Wikipedia says the Law of Attraction:

has its origins in the 4000 year old Hindu monistic theory of the universe; the theory that One is All, and that All is One; that one Substance manifests itself as the seeming many elements of the material world. It posits that one should never dwell on the negative, as the “metaphysical principle of life” is embodied in a “law of attraction”: “you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny.”

Uh… let’s break that down:

  1. All things come from one source.
  2. You are a part of the source.
  3. What you think most about, you receive.
  4. If you think mostly negative thoughts, you receive negative things.

That said, it appears that if you simply think about getting money, you will receive money. But you know there has to be a catch, right?

What are you thinking about money? Are you thinking about how desperately you need it? Are you thinking about how your paycheck never seems to cover all your expenses? Are you thinking about how every time you seem to get a little ahead financially, something happens to take it all away? Are you thinking about how you envy the people who have money to burn?

If so, you’re thinking negative things and you will continue on down the negative cash flow trail.

Money is just one example. When we’re wanting love or spiritual peace or good health, we may also tend to phrase the needs in negative terms. We need to take a moment or more to recast the way we attempt Attraction.

Catch yourself the next time you think about anything you desire. Are you mourning the lack of it or planning the attraction of it? If you find yourself thinking something like, “If I just had $200 more each month, I could pay off that credit card,” stop yourself right there. Think instead, “I will have $200 more each month.” Don’t worry about how it’s going to happen, just intend for it to happen. Know it will happen. Feel the gratitude for it happening…

AND KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN!

The way for that money to come into your life will present itself. If you ignore it or just miss it the first time, it will present itself again. It will continue to present itself until you finally pick up on it or you stop thinking positively about it. Opportunity doesn’t only knock once. Forget that crap, opportunity will pound at your door night and day until you give into it or give up on it. Attraction does require action along with all that positive thinking.

If you want a quick introduction to using the Law of Attraction, the best resource I can point you to is Steve Pavlina’s blog. Steve’s site is one of the best places online to hang out and get motivation for all aspects of your life, not just the financial aspect. But don’t forget to come back, we’ll be working on some specific money exercises in the next week and beyond. Until then, don’t just think rich, think positively.

  1. 3 of the teachers in the Secret (Bob Proctor, Dr. Michael Beckwith and Jack Canfield) created an awesome home study program around “The Science of Getting Rich”. You can get 7 free lessons from them at www.sogr.thesgrprogram.com

  2. By having positive thinking is only a start. We need to inject emotion and more into our thoughts before any manifesting can occur.

Thus controlling of our thoughts and hence emotions are very critical in getting the Law Of Attraction to work.
